Produced between 1981 and 1986, Gibson's ES-335 Dot was the company's first attempt at a "reissue" of a late '50s spec ES-335. While this model was not intended to be an exact replica of a late '50s instrument, the Dot reissue marked the ES-335's return to a '50s spec stop-bar tailpiece and full 1-11/16" nut width for the first time since 1965.
This 1985 ES-335 sports a handsome and rare Ebony finish that has aged beautifully over the last four decades. The guitar exhibits unique finish crazing throughout that gives that instrument a vintage look. Minor tarnishing of the nickel-plated hardware, a few minor dings here and there and playwear on the pickguard are the only signs of use. The original frets are in excellent shape and have plenty of life left. The guitar is all original and in excellent condition.
Equipped with a pair of original Patent Number pickups both measuring 7.2k, this ES-335 offers vintage voiced tones inspired by the PAF humbuckers of the late 1950s. The neck carve is reminiscent of an early 1960 profile, with a first fret depth of 0.818" and 0.944” at the twelfth along with the classic 1-11/16" nut width.
With original hardshell case.
