The introduction of the Heritage Series Standard Les Paul in 1980 marked Gibson's first attempt to recreate their iconic Sunburst Les Pauls of the late 1950s. While these guitars were not fabulously accurate to '58-'60 spec, the use of a mahogany neck and two-piece figured maple top as opposed to maple necks and three-piece tops typical of that era was a big step in the right direction. Produced in limited numbers between 1980 and 1982, the Heritage Series 80 Standard has developed a cult following in the world of guitar collecting due to its significance as the first '59 reissue Les Paul.
Boasting a beautifully ambered sunburst finish over a heavily figured maple top with incredible chatoyance, this 1980 Heritage Standard is a stunning guitar. At the time of its manufacture, this guitar was likely one of the most visually impressive Sunburst Les Pauls that Gibson had built since 1960.
The highly coveted pair of original Tim Shaw humbuckers measure 7.5K in the bridge and 7.4K in the neck. They offer PAF inspired tones that are full, open, and articulate with excellent top-end clarity and overtone content.
The neck has a round carve, 1-11/16” nut, and first fret depth of .865” with a tapers to a full-feeling 0.980" at the twelfth. The guitar weighs 11lbs 5oz lbs. Pots are dated the 11th week of 1980.
