The small but mighty 5-18 was built through nearly one hundred years, although the 1950's saw the bulk of the model's production. At a scant 11-1/4" wide, the 12 fret, 21.3" scale guitar was the perfect traveler or child's size guitar. During the 1950s folk boom sales of the 5-18 spiked to an average of about 150 per year.

Otherwise known as a Terz, German for 'third', the small guitar is generally tuned a minor third up from standard pitch (the low string is a G) with standard gauge strings. We’ve set this 5-18 up in this way, however it can be tuned to standard pitch with a restring and minor set-up adjustment.

Sitka spruce top, mahogany back and sides, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and standard style 18 trim. This 1958 Martin 5-18 has had its neck reset and a pickguard crack repaired in years past, along with a few minor back cracks and a side crack adjacent to the heel of the neck. The tuners have been upgraded to Waverlys, there are dings, dents and scratches throughout the original finish, the bridge pins and saddle are newer, the nut is original. The original frets have been dressed and play well. All finish is original.

Nut is 1-5/8", rounded V carve with 1st fret depth of .881”. 2-1/8” string spread at the saddle.
