The Taylor Legacy 714ce is a welcome throwback to an era of Taylor building that we’ve long admired here at the shop. Before the ultra-modern finishes, before the ES2 electronics, and before the design overhaul of the 2010s, there was a "golden era" of Taylors that featured traditional X bracing with simple elegant appointments. This Legacy Series model leans right into that lineage - and we’re here for it!

Featuring a Western red cedar top paired with Indian rosewood back and sides - a time-tested combination for players who want warmth, responsiveness, and a voice that blooms with just a light touch. Expressive and open, with the nuanced dynamic range that fingerstylists love, but enough presence and sustain to satisfy melodic strummers as well.

However, what really brings the vintage Taylor energy home is what’s not inside the box: Taylor has opted for the LR Baggs Element VTC system here, returning to the classic under saddle design favoured by many players from that earlier era. This setup offers a more traditional plugged-in tone than the more contemporary ES2 system, and will feel instantly familiar to anyone who’s owned or gigged a Taylor from the early 2000s.

Fit and finish are exactly what you’d expect from Taylor - flawless. The Grand Auditorium body with Venetian cutaway remains as versatile and comfortable as ever. The satin-finished mahogany neck has the modern feel we’ve come to expect, but the voicing and aesthetic speak in a more seasoned tone.

Appointed with a tasteful 3-ring rosette, maple binding, abalone dot inlays, and gold tuners, the guitar balances nostalgia and refinement in all the right ways. It even includes a subtle Legacy label inside the body to mark its place in the anniversary series.
