Available from 1972 through 1980, the Gretsch Super Chet was the result of Chet Atkins' vision to build the most beautiful electric guitar in the world. Adorned with abalone floral inlays on the headstock, fingerboard and tailpiece, gold hardware, multilayer binding throughout and with an extra strip of marquetry inlaid to the middle of the sides around the entire body, the 7690 Super Chet was the most highly ornamented guitar in the Gretsch lineup. The guitar featured a pair of Filter'Tron pickups with volume and tone controls mounted to the pickguard. While many of the Baldwin-era Gretsch models tend to be overlooked, the Super Chet is respected by both players and collectors alike.
A beautifully preserved late '70s Gretsch, this completely original 7690 Super Chet is a remarkably clean instrument with finish crazing being the only mark of guitar's age. A dent in the bass-side binding at the 2nd fret, minor fret wear in the first position, and gentle tarnishing of the gold hardware are the only notable signs of playwear. Three extra screw-holes on the bottom of the guitar left by a previously installed Bigsby are well hidden by the end of the original tailpiece that has since been reinstalled.
The original Filter'Tron pickups measure 4.5K in both neck and bridge positions. They offer rich and dynamic tones with classic Gretsch note separation and articulation. The fast neck profile with lean shoulders, a first fret depth of 0.809" twelfth fret depth of 0.904", and 1-11/16" nut width allows for ease of chording across the fingerboard. Scale length of 24.5". Weight of 8lbs 11oz.
With original hardshell case.
