2022 Fender Eric Johnson Stratocaster

The Fender Eric Johnson signature Stratocaster was first engineered in the early 2000s with the goal of pairing the best elements of golden era vintage Strats with some modern specs that guitar slinger Eric Johnson believed would improve upon the model’s original design. The resulting Strat is a guitar that fully captures the look and feel of a vintage example but offers enhanced playability, a fatter tone, and better all-around utility. The Eric Johnson Strat is one that consistently impresses us around here.

An original 1957 Stratocaster was used as a model in the development of this signature series, and many of the design elements - including the one-piece maple neck, V-neck carve, quarter-sawn alder body, and single ply pickguard - reflect that era of Stratocaster production. Johnson felt that a 12" fingerboard radius, larger frets and bone nut would improve the playability of the instrument, and so these features were adopted on his signature run. Johnson's model was also spec'd without a string tree, as the guitarist felt that they had a tendency to cause intonation issues. Instead, the model was outfitted with staggered tuning machines that allowed for more string wraps in place of the string tree.

A very clean example of an EJ Strat, this 2022 build presents in "like-new" condition. There are practically no signs of playwear to be found anywhere on the instrument and the frets are perfect. The trio of Eric Johnson pickups wired to a 5-way switch sound fantastic, offering an array of vintage-voiced Strat tones.

1-5/8” nut, vintage fat neck carve with a depth of 0.861" at the 1st fret and 0.965” at the 12th. 7lbs 6oz, pickup DC values are 5.75k (neck), 6.2 (mid), and 6.6k (bridge).
