The Santa Cruz 00-Skye is a uniquely appointed 00-sized 12-fret fingerstyle model co-designed by Santa Cruz Guitar founder, Richard Hoover, and award-winning fingerstyle acoustic jazz instrumentalist, Eric Skye. Based on SCGC’s 00 model, the 00-Skye features a 24.9” scale neck with 1-13/16” nut and 2-1/4” string spacing at the bridge. The back and sides are cocobolo, and the Adirondack spruce top is X braced with Adirondack stock and hide glue. The 00-Skye also features an increased body depth for added bass and volume (the body tapers from 4-1/8” at the endpin to 3-3/16” at the neck). Scalloped and forward positioned braces, distinctive herringbone trim and ivoroid rosette, mitred wooden purflings, zigzag back strip, bound fretboard and headstock. Gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish with matte-finished neck.
This guitar is remarkable. The slight addition in body depth in conjunction with the tonewoods, Adi bracing, and hide glue assembly creates a smaller body guitar with tone that completely belies its size. Its voice is breathtaking, with an openness and underlying bass response across its entire range. The trebles are gorgeous, robust and full, and are balanced quite perfectly with the midrange and bass – exactly as a fingerstyle guitar should be. Overtone development is secondary to the guitar’s clean and clear fundamental – another modern fingerstyle guitar must – but will flower quite nicely given the space to do so and the players’ approach.
This 00-Skye remains in near-new condition. It shows very slight fretwear along the E and B strings below the 5th fret, but very little wear to its finish. A few very small / light scratches can be found on the top if you look closely in bright light; the back and sides are close to perfect. We’ve set this guitar up with 12-53 strings and a fingerstyle action of 4.5-5.5/64ths.
The neck has a very soft V / almost a C carve and a 1st fret thickness of.847”. Waverly tuning machines, bone nut and saddle, ebony pins.
With original hardshell case.
