A very special guitar, this Dale Fairbanks F-20 captures the look, feel, and tone of a tuxedo ’33 L-00, while adding modern playability and correct intonation into the recipe. The perfect evolution of one of the most special vintage flattops ever made.
A lightly built guitar with an Adirondack spruce top, solid linings, hybrid tapered/scalloped X bracing and small hard maple bridge plate; Honduran mahogany back and sides, Madagascar rosewood fretboard and bridge, and vintage easy V neck carve, this Fairbanks F-20 offers a warm and smokey voice with a beautifully open bass register, strong and focused midrange, and robust, thick trebles. It’s brand new and already sounds tremendously good. We can’t wait to hear it in a month and a year and a decade. Dale Fairbanks has always been a great builder but his guitars just keep getting better and better and better. He’s got be at cruising altitude by now because it would be hard to imagine a new guitar having more soul than this F-20 already has.
L-00-sized and shaped, aged black crackle lacquer finish with white celluloid pickguard and vintage white bindings.
The neck has what Dale calls an ‘Easy V’ carve, which is aptly named. With a first fret depth of .875” and a 1-3/4” nut, the neck doesn’t feel too big or cumbersome. Scale is 24.75”, and the strings spread to 2-1/4” at the saddle. The guitar is set up with 12s and shop spec action of 5-6 64ths. Waverly tuners, ebony nut and pins, and bone saddle.
With hardshell case.
