1958 was the year that Gibson transitioned its Les Paul model from a single to a double cutaway design. The transition happened part-way through the year, and earlier examples like the guitar pictured here maintained the tighter-radius body edges of the previous single-cut versions. By 1959, the round-over became softer, which markedly changed the Les Paul Jr.’s look.

This example is completely original and remains in great shape. It’s got a hot P-90 (8k) and a deep, round, fat feeling neck and it tips the scales at just 7.5lbs – all of the right ingredients for killer Junior tone and feel. With original frets that show little wear and a fresh setup by our shop, this Les Paul Junior is a total blast to play.

The neck has a full and extra chunky feel. Its first fret thickness comes in at .891” and the nut is a hair shy of 1-11/16 - which adds to the deep, U-shaped neck feel. Original tuners, frets, and nut.

This ’58 Junior’s finish shows some light dings and scratches and a bit of edgewear, but its color remains quite vibrant and unfaded. There are a few deeper dings on the neck barrel, but nothing terribly noticeable.

Original electronics throughout, original soap bar P-90 (yes, a soap bar – that was a thing in 1958 for some reason, maybe they ran out of dog-ear baseplates?), and perhaps a solder touch-up on the volume pot – although we can’t say so for certain.

The guitar is dynamic and touch-sensitive, with excellent power and definition in its P-90 and all kinds of oomph to push the front end of your amp into a tone frenzy! With its big neck and expressive pickup this Junior is sure to inspire.

With original alligator chipboard case.
