Gibson's GA-75W made its debut in 1950, the year this example was manufactured. With a pair of 6L6 tubes putting out around 25 watts of power, the GA-75W was among the highest output amplifiers offered by Gibson at the time of its introduction. Approximately 1200 units were produced between 1950 and 1955, after which the GA-75W was dropped from the Gibson line.
This first year GA-75W is a beautiful amplifier with a striking early post-war aesthetic. The amp is largely in original condition with the exception of a reproduction handle, some screws, and a handful of capacitors replaced as part of general servicing. The original Jensen P15N is dated to the 39th week of 1950 and both transformers are original to the amplifier.
This GA-75W offers a strong midrange presence which blends beautifully with the full bass response of the 15" speaker. The four instrument inputs deliver a fair amount of headroom with creamy breaktones achieved when the amp is pushed. Plugging a guitar into the 1/4" microphone input will reward a player with wonderfully rich and warm overdrive tones with excellent sustain.
This amplifier was recently serviced by Toronto's Dom Tantalo and is in excellent working order.
