1959 Gibson LG-3

A wonderfully clean and original late 1950s Gibson LG-3 with a warm and inviting voice and excellent playability. The LG-3 model was Gibson’s highest-end LG-series instrument, almost identical to an LG-2, but with a natural finish and nicer tonewoods.

This example is crack-free and has not seen any repairs apart from a new bone saddle by our shop. It is otherwise completely original, down to the bridge pins and tuner buttons. The frets and finish show a little bit of playwear, but much less than the norm. The neck angle is original and close to perfect, allowing for a full-height saddle and an action of 4.5-6.5 64ths, measured at the 12th fret. There is some lift along the pickguard’s edge that’s minor enough to leave alone. Lastly, there are a few dings on the back of the neck that you’ll feel when your thumb is in bar chord position. In short, it’s a heck of a nice LG-3.

The guitar’s voice is sweet, with its mids forward and trebles that are rounded and thick. It’s a great single-note flat-picker or fingerstyle guitar and responds as well to a light-medium touch as it does to a heavy attack. An LG-2 or LG-3 is generally an excellent acoustic lead guitar, thanks to its clean fundamental and pretty sustain, sweet treble string response up the neck, and excellent headroom.

Glorious 1959 Gibson neck carve with comfortably rounded fretboard edges, a nut of 1-11/16” and a depth of .900” at the 1st fret. 24.75” scale. 2-1/8” string spread at the bridge.

With period alligator chipboard case.
