Oskar Graf was one of Canada’s most accomplished luthiers, blending his German cabinetmaking roots with a design philosophy that bridged the gap between classical sensitivity and steel-string power. Over five decades, Graf handcrafted more than 500 instruments known for their "Cabernet-like" tonal depth and a unique X-brace system incorporating a curved intersecting bar for enhanced sustain. His work is characterized by flawless craftsmanship, signature mosaic rosettes, and a highly responsive, meticulously voiced character. Oskar sadly passed away in the summer of 2025.
Completed in March 2023, this C-model is one of Oskar’s final instruments. The design utilizes classical-sized dimensions (14.25" wide) re-proportioned for steel strings, and offers a focused punch and balanced warmth. This example features highly figured Ziricote back and sides paired with a premium German spruce top, yielding exceptional clarity and resonance. The appointments are world-class, including mitred purflings, a rosewood-bound body and fingerboard, and a Ziricote head plate with Paua Abalone logo. With a 640mm (25.2") scale, 1-3/4" nut, and 2-5/32" string spacing, the guitar has a comfortable, intimate feel.
This guitar remained in Oskar’s personal possession until his passing, serving as his shop’s demonstration instrument for the last 18 months of his life. While it shows a few very minor dings from its time in the studio, it is in nearly as-new condition with no wear to the finish or frets. Recently set up in our shop, it plays beautifully and represents a rare opportunity to own a piece of the final chapter of a legendary building career.
With deluxe hardshell case.
