An exciting and interesting new offering from C.F. Martin & Co., the Super HD-28 takes the classic herringbone Dreadnought blueprint and scales it up for players looking for maximum acoustic horsepower. Featuring a newly designed body with roughly 20% more internal air volume than a standard D, the Super D format yields a massive, deep bass response and headroom that’s never-ending under a heavy flatpicking attack.
The guitar is built with a solid Sitka spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides. Under the hood, Martin has opted for forward-shifted, scalloped Golden Era style X-bracing which helps loosen up the top and gives the guitar a more played-in, responsive feel.
Cosmetically, it’s a tasteful nod to the pre-war era, dressed up with bold herringbone top trim, antique white binding, a style 28 rosette, and diamond-and-square fingerboard inlays. Traditional build techniques include a traditional dovetail neck joint and a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish. It comes fitted with nickel open-gear tuners and a 30s style belly bridge.
The neck features Martin’s GE Modified Low Oval neck with a 1-3/4'' nutwidth and 2-5/32 string spread at the bridge.
