1953 Gibson SJ
As sometimes happens, this guitar sold in-store right after we photographed it. But it’s an excellent reference model small-guard SJ and we had the photos shot so figured we’d get it added to our website and our archive.
This SJ is from 1953 and is completely original but for new buttons on the tuners. It’s fabulously clean and remains crack-free; past repairwork is limited to a bridge reglue and a few glued brace ends. It’s from ’53, so notice that the headstock has a decal logo rather than the pearl inlays that become the norm a year later. It also features the smaller-sized pickguard that all Gibson flat tops were fitted with between 1942 and 1955.
Enjoy the photos!
