The desert-island amp of choice for more guitarists than most any other amp ever made (assuming there’s electricity on that particularly desert island), Fender’s Black Panel Princeton Reverb is an amp that does everything well. It’s powerful enough to offer some clean headroom and small enough to breakup naturally at manageable volumes. It offers legendary reverb, gorgeous trem, and its 10” speaker handles bass well without getting into muddy territory. It’s fairly small, too, which makes it more portable than most.
This example has been well used but is well serviced and sounds incredible. The transformers are all original and each date to late 1965 and the Jensen speaker dates to early in 1966. The tube chart is long gone, the Tolex covering is well worn, one of the front corners is abraded from something that rubbed against it for a while, perhaps in the back of a van on a cross Canada northern-route bar-gig tour in the 1980s. Long and short, it’s fairly worn, but remains original and functionally just right. The tone is all there and then some.
With plenty of vibe, killer vintage Princeton Reverb tone, and original hardware, this vintage Fender amp checks all the boxes.
