1972 Gibson SG Deluxe
Gibson’s SG Deluxe was produced for a short time in the early 1970s. The guitar’s unique features were the control-plate mounted electronics and a factory-installed Bigsby. It’s otherwise rather similar to an SG Standard.
This example remains in great shape and is original but for newer frets, which play well. The original Patent Number decal pickups are unopened and measure 7.8k and 7.7k. Pots date to the 14th week of ’71. Fast neck, nice setup, textural Bigsby tailpiece – this is a fun guitar to play.
The neck has a compact feel, 1-9/16” nut width and a 1st fret thickness of .800”. By the 12th fret the neck depth increases to .960” and feels much more substantial.
The guitar is currently set up with 10-46 strings and an action of 4-5 64ths. The bridge is at the bottom of its range of motion.
No breaks, repairs, or neck joint issues. Fretwear is minimal. The finish is mostly worn off the back of the neck but remains in quite nice shape on the body and headstock. The guitar has been well used, but appears to have been very well cared for as well.
With gig bag.
