Sergei De Jonge Lefty 7 String Cutaway Concert Classical
Sergei De Jonge has a well-earned and well-established reputation as one of the world's foremost classical guitar builders. His instruments combine meticulousness of craftsmanship and an evolved sense of design, thanks to his years of honing his skills and his chisels.
Not one to shy away from a difficult project, Sergei has built instruments with any number of strings, courses, and even necks. He's been a pioneer of revolutionary top bracing systems as well as neck attachments, and always seems to get the job done in style; his instruments are among the most beautiful guitars being made today.
Featured here is a guitar that's undoubtedly as unique as they come. We can't think of too many luthiers who would build a left-handed cut-away 7 string classical guitar, let alone one built with Brazilian rosewood of the quality used in the making of this one!
The guitar is stunning - a work of art and science -- and musically tremendous. It features quarter-sawn well-aged Brazilian rosewood back and sides, master-grade European spruce top with a delicate lattice bracing, contoured flush-heel venetian cut-away, and a mirror-smooth French polish finish. Spalted maple rosette, rosewood bindings with maple and rosewood mitred purflings, Brazilian rosewood bridge and headstock overlay, and ebony fingerboard. Schertler tuning machines, gold EVO fretwire, bone nut and saddle. Scale length is 650mm, nut measures 59mm, and the string spacing at the bridge is 69mm.
A strong, even, and responsive instrument with airiness and sustain in its overtones and an excellent fundamental, the guitar appreciates a subtle but firm attack. Single notes up the first and second strings are rich and balanced, and there's little understatement possible about what that 7th string offers.
