2015 Dudenbostel D14
Lynn Dudenbostel’s instruments are prized by players the world over and are generally quite hard to come by. He builds a limited number of guitars and mandolins (and a few banjos) each year and enjoys a long waiting list. It is infrequent to find a pre-owned Dudenbostel on the used market so, naturally, we’re quite excited about this 2015 Mahogany D14 model.
Closely modelled on a 30’s Martin D-18 with Advanced X and wide neck, this Dudenbostel D14 features a light build and scalloped braces, a gorgeous red spruce top with hand-rubbed varnish finish, mahogany back, sides, and 30s-carve neck finished in lacquer. The nut measures 1-3/4, scale is 25.4” and the strings spread to 2-5/16” at the bridge. First fret neck depth is .856”, and the guitar weighs in at 4 lbs. Style 18 appointments throughout, ebony fingerboard and bridge, through-cut bone saddle, bone nut, and Waverly vintage style 18 tuners.
The guitar has a wonderfully dry and wide-open voice, with a stunning low end and a rich midrange. There’s ample headroom for a heavy right hand flatpicked attack, and a full response to a softer touch as well. Melodic flatpickers, solo instrumentalists, songwriters, and pretty much most anyone who plays will seriously appreciate what this instrument has to offer.
In excellent condition, the guitar is crack-free and shows minor dings here and there. The top’s varnish finish is thin and not as durable as lacquer, so expect it to show wear sooner than the rest of the guitar. It has just been through our shop and has been set up with 5-7 64ths action with medium strings and freshly dressed original EVO frets.
With non-original hardshell case
