1959 Gibson J-45

A classic late 1950’s J-45 with round and full-feeling 1959 neck carve, great played-in looks, excellent playability, and some seriously wonderful warm and inviting slope shouldered tone.

A great sounding guitar, this J-45 started life with an adjustable bridge that has since been replaced with a drop-in style reproduction. We were happy to find the original small maple bridge plate still intact when we acquired this guitar, which always bodes well for tone.

The guitar shows some playwear to the top and a good collection of dings and dents but is otherwise relatively light on cracks. Its pickguard crack has been repaired and there are two very minor cracks on the guitar’s back. Under the hood the guitar is in surprisingly good condition and with very few brace repairs. That said, the second back brace is a well-made and aged replacement. You’d likely not have noticed this without us pointing it out… the last owner didn’t. The repairs were not completed here; however, we’ve spent time aging and blending-in the replaced bridge and brace. We’ve installed a new aged bone saddle and a set of Antique Acoustic bridge pins and have adjusted the set up. The action is 5-6 64th with a tall saddle. Frets show little wear.

1-11/16” nut, 24.75” scale. Sitka top with straight X bracing, mahogany back and sides. Kluson tuners, original nut, original finish throughout.
