1958 Martin D-28

With gorgeous and spidery Brazilian rosewood back and sides, thick, woody, powerful and dark D-28 tone and excellent playability, this crack-free D-28 offers a lot of vintage Martin goodness at an obtainable price-point.

It’s a top-only refin and presents quite well; we can’t figure out why it was refinished. There are no repairs to the braces, no cracks anywhere, the bridge plate is original and in excellent condition, and the original bridge was reinstalled, with well-hidden filled-in screw-holes. The neck is unmodified but for a strap button screw hole in the heel cap; the finish, nut and tuners are original. All together, it’s a pretty great D-28.

Sitka top with standard bracing, typical style 28 trimmings, replacement faux-tortoise pickguard. Set -up here with new Antique Acoustic pins and a new bone saddle. The action is set at 5-7 64ths with medium strings.

The neck has a soft V carve with typical 50’s depth and a 1-11/16” nutwidth. The frets are replacements that are nicely dressed and quite lightly worn.
