1960 Fender Stratocaster

This 1960 Fender Stratocaster was nearly completely original but for an old professionally executed - but incorrect - body-only refinish when we purchased it from its owner of 40 years in 2020. We shipped the body to Joe Riggio for an expert refinish in Fiesta Red and a light aging, and we refretted the neck in-house with vintage wire and no fretboard modification. The neck finish is original as is the balance of the guitar, with the exception of the 5 way switch and the volume pot which were both replaced in 1985.

Body date of 2/60, 1960 serial number, both original tone pots are dated 46th week of 1959, original capacitor. No neck date (normal for a ‘59/60 Strat). Pickups measure 5.9 / 6.2 / 6.3 (neck to bridge), and the guitar weighs a scant 7.25lbs. Neck thickness is .81” at the first fret and .985” at the 12th.

A fabulously resonant slab board Stratocaster with expressive, dynamic, and touch-sensitive pickups, as well as a well-worn neck feel for a truly natural and unimpeded playing experience.

Joe Riggio’s refinishing is highly regarded for good reason. The work is beautifully and meticulously done, well researched, and incredibly accurate. This Fiesta body refinish was done without aged clear-coat, as many original Fiesta Strats left the factory in the 1960s. The color is vibrant and rich, and the white undercoat shows through here and there. It’s not heavily worn as many refins are, but was given a ‘closet classic’ look, complete with natural crazing that’s just gorgeous. No razor-blade “craze lines” going on here!
