c.1939 Dobro Model 45

The late 1930’s Dobro Model 45 was a Chicago-built 14 fret round-neck resonator that featured sunburst mahogany back and sides, a natural-finished spruce top, white bindings, three-layer top purflings and deco back strip. This example has had its neck reset and cone replaced in our shop. It plays ‘Spanish’ style very easily and sounds fabulous thanks to the Replogle cone and new saddles we’ve installed. While we were at it, we relocated the cone 1/8” further from the neck for accurate intonation and installed new Golden Age tuners. Long and short – it’s a vintage resonator that plays really well and in tune. Can’t ask for much more, in our books.

The guitar is in excellent condition and shows very little playwear. The original frets are unworn, and work surprisingly well, despite a little too much relief in the neck. The action is currently set at 5-6 64ths (standard acoustic guitar action) with 12-54 strings.

The neck has a full feeling rounded V carve and a nut that measures a hair wider than 1-3/4”. The depth at the 1st fret is a healthy .987”. Scale length is 25”.

With modern hardshell case.
