1980 Gibson Les Paul Custom Silverburst

Gibson’s Les Paul Custom Silverburst was released in very limited numbers between 1978 and 1982. It’s estimated that total production numbered under 200 instruments. One of those, a 1979 model, is owned by Adam Jones of Tool fame, and served as a model for Gibson’s recent Custom Shop artist reissue, and later production run.

This example is in excellent condition and completely original save for the tuning machines and strap buttons. It weighs in at just 9.9lbs, which is far lighter than most any Les Paul Gibson was building in 1980. We have it set up with 11s and playability in excellent. The frets show some light wear in the first position but play cleanly.

Patent number humbuckers date to 1980, and the original potentiometers date to 1979 and 1980. The pickups both have DC readings of 7.6k. Electronic circuitry is factory original and untouched.

The neck has a round carve, 1-11/16” nut and measures .855” at the first fret. Neck depth at the 12th fret is .994”.

The original finish shows very little handling wear. There are marks from a guitar stand’s rubber-covered headstock yoke, a small chip in the treble-side headstock corner, and a little bit of thumb wear on the back of the neck by fret 3.

A great sounding Les Paul Custom, with a distinctive finish.
