The RainSong Black Ice BI-WS1000NZ is a 15-3/4” wide full-depth cutaway acoustic that’s entirely constructed of graphite and thereby immune to the destructive forces expansion and contraction bring to wooden guitars. Perfect for travel to humid, arid, hot, or cold places, the RainSong’s set-up and playability are unaffected by the weather and humidity extremes that would ruin a conventional guitar.
This example is in excellent condition and shows only slight playwear to the back’s finish and a nick to the back of the headstock. The frets are largely unworn and the setup is excellent.
The neck has a comfortably rounded D carve, 1-11/16” nut, first fret depth of .852”, and a 25.4” scale. String spread at the saddle is 2-5/16”.
The Black Ice has a unique tone that is impossible to speak of in wooden guitar terms. The top is layered graphite and made without bracing, so resonance is created in a very different way. The guitar has a dark voice with mid-range response that peaks at certain frequencies more than others. There is plenty of harmonic development as well. String balance is quite even, and the guitar responds best to a light to medium attack.
