1935 Gibson L-00
A crazy-clean Gibson L-00 from 1935, this crack-free guitar is a museum-worthy specimen that sounds great and plays perfectly. Clean neck reset and new aged saddle by our shop, and no other repairs – ever. Apart from the saddle and the Antique Acoustic bridge pins we’ve installed, this L-00 is original and untouched. It’s about as perfect an L-00 as we’ve ever seen.
Three-piece red spruce top (typical of 1935 L-00s), mahogany back and sides, rosewood board and bridge, ebony nut, and Grover ‘Book Top’ tuners. Original finish throughout.
Playwear is minimal and limited to the soundhole’s edge. There are small dings around the heel of the neck, which we seem to find on most old guitars (we suspect they were caused by jewelry, but that’s just a guess), and minor tiny dings here and there on the back and sides. The top is nearly blemish free and features a gorgeous small-center sunburst finish. The seams of the three-piece top have become visible through the finish but remain tightly glued. Very little fretwear, and negligible wear to the neck and headstock. The original nut has never been removed.
The neck has a chunky and rounded V carve with a 1st fret depth of .993 (that’s big), and a 9th fret depth of 1.078”. 1-3/4” nutwidth, 24.75” scale, 2-3/8” string spread at the bridge.
This L-00 is set up with 12-54 strings and a comfortable action of 5-7 64ths. The original small frets lie well and play cleanly, too. A rounded and punchy sounding guitar, this L-00 offers the mid-range presence that these guitars are famous for. It has plenty of headroom at the ready for a heavier attack, and pretties up nicely under a lighter touch.
