Completed in early 2021, this Pre-War OM-2018 isn’t your average mahogany OM. Pre-War’s "2018" models have nothing to do with anything that happened that year - the name is a contraction of the words “Twenty Eight” and “Eighteen,” which helps describe this guitar’s combination of herringbone trimmings and mahogany back and sides. Built with all the features of a Herringbone OM, including volute and zig-zag backstrip, this guitar is the perfect choice for all of us who love the look of a vintage Style 28 but prefer the sweet sound of mahogany.
Scalloped-braced torrefied red spruce top, mahogany back and sides, hide-glue construction, ebony fingerboard and bridge, mahogany neck with Granadillo headstock overlay. Vintage Taper neck carve with a 1-3/4” nut, 2-5/16” string spread at the bridge, and 25.4” scale. First fret depth of 0.835", 9th fret depth of 0.98", weight of 3lbs 12oz. Level 1.5 distressing. Complete with K&K Pure Mini pickup. The guitar plays well, set up in house with 12-54 strings.
Pre-War's uncanny ability to capture vintage tone is clearly evident here. With incredible power, headroom and versatility, this balanced OM is an exceptional flatpicker with dry woody fundamental to its mids, clean overtone support in the trebles, and a powerful yet articulate low-mid and bass response.
