c.1941 SS Stewart H-1130

What can we say? We love this thing! It’s an early 1940s S.S. Stewart branded Harmony H-1130, and it’s fabulous. An OM-sized small-jumbo shaped body of spruce and birch, finished with a sunburst top and faux-figured maple-effect back and sides, the guitar packs a lot of cosmetic punch. Checker-board bindings and soundhole trim, back-painted firestripe pickguard, and Deco headstock motif. It’s in beautiful condition, too, which helps.

A ladder-braced guitar with a fairly light build, this S.S. Stewart has a full and thick midrange and treble response, defined and focused bass and plenty of volume. It’s great under a heavy flatpick for single-note playing or arpeggiated chords, and naturally is right at home played with a raggy-blues fingerstyle.

Neck reset completed here at Folkway along with a couple of minor crack repairs. Original bridge, tuners, nut and saddle. Original frets are cleanly dressed, and the action is set at 5-7 64ths. The original finish is in amazing condition.

Deep neck carve with a rounded V profile, 1-11/16” nut and 25” scale. 2-3/16 string spread at the bridge.
