1927 Martin 0-18 Lefty Conversion
Serial # 32312. This guitar arrived at Folkway in need of a neck reset and new frets, and had previously had its bridgeplate and bridge replaced. There was a spliced crack on the top, a pair of un-repaired cracks along the edges of the fingerboard’s extension, and a few minor cracks stemming from around the bridge. The bridge and plate were not nicely replaced, and the instrument lingered un-repaired on our back shelves for years. Rediscovered during our year-end inventory earlier this year, we immediately saw the potential in this instrument that we’d not previously noticed. It was a perfect candidate for lefty-ization! The body was in great shape despite the crack repairs and bridge and plate work, and it was a late 20’s steel-string braced small body. We couldn’t resist!
We replaced the bridge plate (it’s modern-sized), and opted to make an early 1930’s profile belly bridge. This allowed us to add some structural integrity back to the top, hide some of the last repair-person’s messiness, and make the guitar look cool and factory lefty in the process. It’s not an oversized bridge, just a slightly later shape that what was used in 1927. We repaired the cracks along the fingerboard’s edge, reset and refretted the neck, added lefty side-dots that match the originals on the righty side, cut new lefty nut, and made a great looking beveled-edge lefty celluloid pickguard out of the most 1930’s looking stock we have.
We had fun bringing life back to this guitar, and the results were shocking to say the least. To call this guitar ‘good’ is a massive understatement. It’s one of the best sounding lefty instruments we’ve ever offered, and one that’s pretty much impossible to put down. The guitar is hugely open, dynamic, balanced, and powerful. It has a wonderful liveliness, but is anything but brash. It’s voice is warm, resonant, punchy, and round. It is equally at home played fingerstyle or with a flat pick, and plays perfectly with low action. The neck is very comfortable, too; with a low round profile, 1-13/16” nut-width, and 24.9” scale. Original finish throughout, with minor touch-up around the spliced top crack; original Waverly tuners, new Blazer+Henkes bridgepins, original end pin.

1950 Martin 000-28 Lefty
Serial # 113461. Is there a lefty out there who doesn't completely want this guitar?! It's a Brazilian rosewood 000-28, factory lefty, in near-mint condition, completely playable, and completely original. It sounds every bit as good as its price tag suggests, and is impossible to put down. Fingerstyle or flatpick - both are magical with this guitar. The treble notes are round and full right up the neck, nothing thin going on here; the mids are airy and open and the guitar resonates incredibly well. You'll definitely want to keep the guitar's back off your belly to get every molecule of tone out of the soundhole. Drop D tuning is a particularly special affair. It pretty much doesn't get any better than this for all of us lefties. And the condition - amazing to think that this guitar is 60 years old. Sitka spruce top and perfectly straight Brazilian rosewood back and sides, original first-year Kluson no-hole Pat. Appl'd For tuning machines, original nut, frets, saddle and finish. The bridge pins and end pin are newer, but nothing else has been altered. Previously celebrity owned (we've been told), this guitar has had a small back crack repaired by Tj Thompson, and we suspect the neck was reset by him as well - the workmanship is flawless. A 1" crack along the treble side of the fingerboard was hide-glued in our shop and seems to be a non-issue, the pickugard and associated cracks were left unaltered. There are no internal repairs, the bridge and bridge plate are perfect, the finish is unworn, and the original frets are perfect. The guitar is set up with very light action and plays incredibly easily. A heavier attack will bring the buzzes out, but we would be happy to set up the guitar with higher action at the buyer's request. Essentially, this guitar is gem in every way. Its rarity is obvious, its tone is beguiling, its condition is incredible, and its playability is perfect. An investment and a pleasure.

1965 Fender Stratocaster LEFTY
Serial # 125920. "F" neck plate; June 2 1965 neck date; pot codes (137 6514) date to March 1965; pickups dated June 11, 1965. Lefty vintage guitars do actually exist. We have proof right here in the form of the 1965 Fender Stratocaster shown in these photos... Ok, ok, we know there are others out there, but we so rarely come across them - we have to make a big splash when one comes our way!
This one is an early CBS-era Strat, completed in June 1965 (CBS took ownership of Fender at the start of 1965). The guitar shows many transitional features: F-neck plate, Transition logo, Kluson double-line tuners, white pickguard, and pat. pend bridge saddles. The finish is three-tone sunburst nitrocellulose lacquer, and the fingerboard is Brazilian Rosewood. The guitar is in excellent condition and completely original, with the exception of a replacement 5-way switch (the original accompanies the guitar), a newer bone nut, and missing back-plate. The guitar shows minor finish wear; there are a few dings on the edges that have been pen touched-up, but there is no major damage or play wear. It has obviously been well cared for throughout its life.
The guitar was most recently bought in the early 1970's from a right-handed player who owned the guitar for a week, we’re told. In his quest to become Jimi Hendrix this righty strung it backwards and installed a strap button on the treble horn. It didn't take him long to learn that you've got to do more than play an upside-down Strat to sound like Hendrix! In any case, there remains a hole in the treble horn from that strap button.
We've set the guitar up in shop with .010's, and from one lefty to another - it's a lot of fun. The neck feels great, and the guitar is springy and resonant. 8 pounds total weight. The pickups sound perfect - and have DC resistances of 5.8 kOhms (neck and middle) and 7.6 kOhms (bridge). The frets are original and show some wear, but the guitar doesn't buzz out anywhere and plays fast. With an original Lefty side-pocket hard case, there's not much more you can ask for.

2000 Martin 000-28H Lefty
Serial # 762246. As a lefty, it’s hard not to fall for an attractive herringbone 000 when one shows up. But when they sound as good as this guitar does, it’s near impossible! This ten year old guitar has had a chance to play-in and open up beautifully – it’s got power, and fullness, strong trebles, and warm overtones, and it’s great fingerpicked or flatpicked. Scalloped braces, a high-quality Sitka spruce top, and a compensated bone saddle must certainly help the tonal cause. And thanks to a recent in-shop set-up this one plays just right, too. No cracks or repairs, no finish wear, very little fretwear. 1-11/16” nut, round profile neck, 24.9” scale.

NEW Santa Cruz Custom OMM Lefty
For something completely different, we present this all-mahogany,
left-handed, cut-away OM. It's a lovely fingerstyle guitar with all the
snap you'd expect from a mahogany topped instrument, and all the body and
bass response you'd count on from a lightly built Santa Cruz.
Forward-shifted scalloped X bracing lends itself nicely to the mahogany OM
by allowing the denser hardwood top to vibrate more freely, and the guitar's
long OM scale adds power to the equation. The long and short of it is that
this guitar sounds particularly good, and is quite unlike anything else
you'll have ever played. Quarter sawn Honduran mahogany throughout, bound
in ivoroid, with herringbone purflings and rosette. Bound ebony fingerboard
and headstock, nickel SCGC tuners, pearl logo; ebony bridge pins, bone nut
and saddle, tortoise celluloid pickguard. A particularly attractive
instrument, Santa Cruz proves again that they build some of the most
tasteful and stylish high-end instruments out there. Vintage V neck
profile, 1-3/4" nut width.

1992 Martin HD-28L LEFTY!
Serial # 516011. Lefty flatpickers should take a good look at this 15 year old HD-28L. Sure, it's in pretty much mint condition, and yes, it looks great - but first and foremost guitars are about tone; and this guitar has lots of it! This is a powerhouse of a D-28, loud and open, with ample headroom. It's one you can dig into with everything you've got and it won't max out. Very well taken care of over its 15 years so far, the instrument has no cracks, scrapes or bruises. Its finish is scuff and dent free, and there's really no pickwear to talk about. Mint condition means mint condition around here. Deep chocolate brown rosewood back and sides, and perfectly quartered even-grained Sitka top with no runout and medium-wide growth rings. Scalloped braces, herringbone top trim, old style C.F. Martin & Co. headstock decal, Schaller tuners. Ebony fingerboard and bridge, thin gloss lacquer finish. We've set it up in shop, too. This is a good one you guys.

1976 Guild D-50 Lefty
Serial # 141597. The D-50 has always been one of Guild's best selling guitars. It was designed to compete directly against Martin's D-28, and does so quite well. Like the D-28 the guitar has solid rosewood back and sides, a solid Sitka spruce top, ebony fingerboard and bridge, and white body bindings. 25.4" scale length, 1-11/16" nut, and a very comfortable round neck carve. This guitar is in good shape overall and plays well. There are two repaired top cracks, and the bass side has a repair at the waist that we've photographed. Finally, the original bridge has had a crack through the bridge-pins repaired all but invisibly. This guitar is in very good structural condition and has had no internal modifications. The action is currently set at 5 to 7 64ths, and there is some room on the saddle to lower the action slightly further. It sounds great - big and loud, and not dissimilar to a mid 1970's D-28

1937 Gibson L-00 Lefty
FON 50C-36. Ok, so here's something your don't see every day. Actually, scratch that. Here's something that you never, ever, in a million years, even think you'll come across! Vintage lefties are just about as rare as, well... vintage lefties; and finding a pre-WWII left handed guitar is a once in a lifetime occurrence. Well here you go. It's an original 1937 lefty Gibson L-00. Complete with a gorgeous fire-stripe pickguard and all the vintage tone you'd hope to hear. The instrument is in excellent condition, but has had some modifications over the years. The top and sides were oversprayed a very long time ago, and the back and neck were refinished at that time. The finish-work is of the highest quality; and may even be Gibson factory work from the 1950's. There is much crazing in the lacquer, and it looks quite respectably old. The headstock face has not been oversprayed, and its logo and finish are original. The bridge is a slightly oversized replacement, and the bone nut and saddle were cut and installed in our repair shop. There is a very (I mean VERY) slight shadow of a right-handed pickguard that you may or may not notice, and I suspect that prior to the overspraying of the top the guitar was fashioned with a second pickguard. Frets and tuners are original. As with all pre 1969 left handed Gibsons, the guitar is braced right-handed, and has dots on both sides of its fingerboard. The frets and fingerboard show lefty playwear, as does the top adjacent to the pickguard. The top wear is actually under the overspray, suggesting that this instrument was used by a left handed player throughout its life. The instrument checks out well, structurally. There are no top or side cracks, and only one well-repaired back crack. The original bridge-plate and bracing are all intact. The neck angle is fine, and the action measures a standard 5 to 7 64ths at the 12th fret. It has an added strap button on the heel of the neck, and the end-pin has been drilled for a pickup output jack. It has that perfect V-profile neck that most lefties have never had a chance to feel, and a roomy 1-3/4" nut width. A great sounding guitar, it's woody and balanced, loud and bright. Tonally, it's unlike any guitar most lefties have ever had a chance to play.

shorter string length, and a slight replacement of the bridge. We love it,

Santa Cruz Custom Rosewood H-13 Lefty
Although designed with a 1930's Nick Lucas Model in mind, these guitars are not meant for tiptoeing, tulip season or not! The body depth ranges from 3 7/8" to 5", incredibly deep for a smaller guitar, producing extra volume and bass support to bolster its rich tone. Its comfortable size and complex tonal characteristics will make it especially appealing to traditional players, soloists, and recording artists who demand maximum warmth and tonal versatility.
Features of this handcrafted custom H-13 include a specially hand-tuned bracing system beneath its top-grade Sitka spruce top and back and sides of Indian Rosewood. A slotted headstock adds classic style and an enhanced string angle for greater sustain, and the mahogany neck features an ebony fingerboard with a total of 19 frets. An ebony headstock overlay with pearl SCGC logo, and an ebony 1" x 6" pyramid rectangular bridge add to the classic appearance. The sunburst top and intricate purflings offer a vintage look that works well with the shape of the instrument. We have found this to be a great feeling and entrancingly deep sounding guitar. The 13th-fret body joint has always seemed a nice compromise to us as well, allowing the luthier to create that distinctive twelve fret sound, while giving reasonable access to the second octave. With the huge rebirth of popularity that 12-fret guitars have enjoyed lately, the H-13 is creating a big stir.

Larrivee 000-60 Lefty
Larrivee's OOO guitars have garnered a reputation as some of the best
sounding 12 fretters out there. There must be something about the body
dimensions working in conjunction with Larrivee's distinctive symmetrical
bracing pattern that makes these guitars sound as fine as they do. Perhaps
it's the vintage pyramid bridge and bone saddle, or maybe it has to do with
the steeper break angle that the slotted headstock provides. Whatever it is
that makes these guitars sound the way they do, we're thankful for it... as
these are consistently our favorite Larrivee Guitars. The rosewood example
pictured here features an incredible set of bookmatched, quarter-sawn back
and sides, and a perfect AAAAA Sitka spruce top. 1-13/16" nut width, and

Serial # EF100189. What a fabulous guitar! Not only is it in near-mint condition, it sounds Guilderific too! A great strummer of a guitar - perfect for singing tunes and filling out the entire rhythm section at the next jam. Lots of volume and projection here with nice resonant basses and mids. It's a guitar that you can dig into when you want, and strum lightly is the song calls for it. The neck is very comfortable, with a round profile, 14" radius fingerboard and 1-11/16" nut. All solid tonewoods - spruce and rosewood, with maple bindings, 5-ply purflings, and an abalone soundhole rosette. NEW Yanuziello Electric Lefty
Joe Yanuziello has amazed us again with the latest of his instruments.
Custom built for us at Folkway are this matched pair of lefty and righty
electrics in Mahogany and figured maple. Joe's electric instruments feature
an ultra light hollow body with handmade hardware and custom Lindy Fralin
pickups. They are versatile instruments that combine a retro look with
modern playability. The body is constructed of a one-piece hollowed
mahogany back mated to a bookmatched figured hard maple top that is bound
with a single-ply ivoroid strip. The pickups are custom-made Lindy Fralin
high output DeArmond-style single coils that offer up the sound of those
great late 50's Harmony pickups with modern string spacing and shielding.
The bridges and pickup housings are completely machined by Yanuziello
himself and designed entirely to the specifications that he requires for
these original instruments. The bridge / tailpiece combo is infinitely
adjustable, and mechanically perfect. The instrument is finished in a
hand-polished gloss Nitrocellulose lacquer, with a Viceroy-brown sunburst to
the top and matching back and neck. Ivoroid pickguard and knobs and
standard two-pickup switching. The neck profile is styled after a 50's Les
Paul Special and has that ultra-comfortable round and fairly beefy feel that
us vintage guitar freeks just die for. The fingerboard is ivoroid bound
Brazilian rosewood, as is the peghead overlay. Kluson Deluxe nickel tuners
with metal oval buttons bejewel the headstock and Joe's logo finishes off
the instrument with a final touch of class.
The scale length is 24.75" and the bone nut measures 1-11/16". The guitars
weigh in at a feathery 5.2 pounds. The tone is all vintage - imagine a
combination of an early Gretsch Duo-Jet, an Harmony Stratotone, and a 50's
Les Paul Special and you'll have a fairly good idea of what these guitars
are all about. In our minds they are the ideal guitars - vintage tone and
vibe and feel with modern playability, dependability... and a Warranty!
With custom fitted TKL 8900 Les-Paul shaped hard case.

1966 Martin GS-70L Lefty!
Serial #214400. Talk about rare! Martin electrics are not easy to come by,
and Vintage Martin lefties are scarcer still; so you can imagine our
surprise when this original left-handed Martin GT-70L walked into the shop!
Martin records indicate that a grand total of 1 lefty GT-70 was ever made;
and here it is. The instrument features a full-hollow laminate maple body,
DeArmond pickups, bolt-on neck with a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard,
trapeze tailpiece, and Kluson individual tuners. White body fingerboard and
headstock bindings, aluminum bridge base, non-original tunematic bridge
top, black plastic skirted knobs (which go to 9), and no pickguard (it's
missing). The guitar has been set up in our shop, and plays quite well. It
has a compressed Gretsch like tone, thanks to the combination of De Armonds
and hollow body, and excels at country and funk styles. It's a pretty cool
thing...

2002 Gibson Historic 1958 TV Les Paul Jr. LEFTY!
From the Gibson Custom Shop, Historic Division, comes this wonderfully
recreated 1958 TV Les Paul Junior... in lefty! The Junior was introduced in
1954 with a price tag of $49.50, but original examples of these instruments
are selling for more than 100 times that, TV yellow models twice as much
still - and best of luck finding an original Lefty! The Gibson Custom shop
has done a great job with this historically-accurate instrument. The
single-piece mahogany body is a full 1-3/4" deep (just like the originals)
with a long-tenon set-in Mahogany neck. The fingerboard is quartersawn
Brazilian rosewood and is fretted with late 50's style wire. The neck, of
course, is a perfect fit with its 1-11/16" nut width, 50's big chunky-round
profile and 22 frets to move though. The hardware is all nickel-plated, and
includes the lightweight aluminum wrap-around bridge/tailpiece made famous
by the original Les Pauls, and a single P-90 pickup with tone and volume
controls. The Nitrocellulose lacquer TV finish is incredible, with 100%
vintage correct color and translucency. To top it all off, Gibson gives its
Historic division guitars serial numbers akin to the originals, stamped in
black ink on the back of the headstock; this one is #8 2538. Magically

1955 Gibson L-48/ ES-125 Lefty
Nope, it's not a factory lefty, but it is the next best thing. We started
with a 1955 Gibson L-48 that was missing all of its hardware, and made a
lefty electric out of it... just because we could! The tortoise celluloid
pickguard was made by us after we installed a Seymour Duncan Antiquity P-90
and a completely new wire harness in the guitar. The 3-on-a-plate Klusons
are new, and we've aged the buttons to look the part. We installed
period-correct lefty side dots on the neck, installed a Tone-Pros AVR-II
bridge, set it up with 11-49's and voila! A quasi-vintage lefty Gibson. It
has a great feeling neck, vintage appeal and vintage tone thanks to the
Antiquity P-90, and everything about the guitar looks just right and
perfectly believable. Very cool.

Recent Gretsch '57 Duo-Jet Lefty Mint
The Duo-Jet was Gretsch's answer to Gibson's Les Paul model, introduced in
1954 as well. The instrument pictured here is a very accurate
Japanese-built replica of the 1957 model, with hump-top block inlays,
DeArmond pickups, clear acrylic back-painted pickguard and Bigsby tremolo.
Chambered solid Mahogany body, set mahogany neck, black finished top,
vintage-style Grover open-back tuners. The body is light and resonant, and
the neck - with it's 24.75" scale - makes for a very comfortable instrument.
The DeArmond pickups have a moderate output and lots of that fat brightness
these have become famous for. The guitar is virtually unplayed, and is in
as-new condition. We've just set it up, too.
With original hard case.

1985 Beneteau Lefty
One of Canada's most highly regarded Luthiers, Marc Beneteau got his start
in Ottawa in the mid 1970's. This Lefty cutaway model was built a decade
into his carrer, and although stylistically different from today's
instruments is constructed with the same level of precision that Marc is
today famous for. Indian rosewood three-piece back and matched sides, Sitka
spruce top, bound ebony fingerboard and ebony bridge. Rosewood body and
fingerboard bindings, mitered purflings, and pearl soundhole rosette and
headstock inlay. Approximately the size and shape of a Larrivee L body,
this guitar is very comfortable to hold. It is in excellent original
condition with no cracks and almost no wear. Tonally mature, with open
basses and trebbles; very well suited for a variety of styles. Scale length
of 25.5", nut width of 1- 5/8".

Once again, you've asked and we've supplied! A lefty Sanchez 3450 concert

laminated Indian rosewood back and sides are rich and attractive. The
pickup is top-of-the-line, using a condenser-mic in combination with an
under saddle transducer for true acoustic tone and dependable utility. This

c.1870 LEFTY Minstrel Banjo
Perhaps the only one of its kind, this Left-Handed minstrel banjo dates from sometime around the Civil War. A simple but beautiful instrument, this 5 string has ivory and pearl inlays, rosewood and mahogany neck, and a spun metal over wood rim. Heavy wear on the fingerboard attests to the legacy of this instrument, but it maintains excellent playability to this day. With its beguiling and warm voice, well developed patina and years of wear any left handed musician or vintage instrument collector would find this banjo infinitely appealing. We can’t tell you much about the history of this one, although we suspect it started life as a 6 string with the extra peg in the center of the headstock. The pearl inlays on the headstock and at the base of the neck are quite old, but do not match the ivory inlays on the fretboard. There is heavy wear on the fingerboard, however the instrument is well set up and plays perfectly. Bridge, tailpiece, and likely the skin and pegs are replacements. We’ve never seen another Civil War era banjo, and it’s likely we won’t again once this one is sold.

1977 Fender Deluxe Telecaster Lefty
Serial # S704505. Fender introduced the Telecaster Deluxe in the early 1970’s; the instrument was Fender’s first humbucker equipped guitar. It featured Fender's new "Wide Range" humbuckers, which were designed by Seth Lover – the inventor of Gibson’s first hubucking pickups. The pickups measure 10.4k ohms (neck) and 10.8k ohms (bridge), and offer a fat sound that retains some of the bright jangle typical of Fender single coils. They really sound nothing like Gibson PAF’s. The guitar's Telecaster shaped body incorporated the back contour of a Strat and the new micro tilt neck system, a wiring layout similar to a Les Paul, and a hard-tail Strat bridge. It was unlike anything Fender had offered before. This ' 77 lefty is an extra fine example; it’s in gorgeous condition and is 100% original. There's a bit of light play wear on the frets, and apart from cracked volume knobs and a few very small dings this guitar is in excellent shape. Complete with original hang tags and original hardshell case, it's a great package. 1-5/8ths at the nut, fast C shaped neck profile, with a nice shop setup.

1957 Gibson SJ LEFTY
FON U2284-11. Possibly a one-of-a-kind instrument, this ’57 Gibson Southern Jumbo is – at very least – impossibly rare. We sold this one years ago, and we’re glad to offer it again. It’s a gorgeous guitar with a perfect feel, and it offers the kind of tone most lefties have never really had a chance to experience. The guitar’s body is near-perfect; there is a very small and well-repaired crack on the bottom of the back, but no other repairs or modifications. The bridge was once slotted for a right-handed saddle, but has been ‘corrected’ since; and the frets were replaced in our shop seven or eight years ago but remain mostly unworn. An old headstock repair is the only category in which this guitar looses points, but it is structurally stable and doesn’t pose any concern to us (in all the years we’ve known this guitar it’s looked the same). It’s a loud and lively guitar, with bold trebles, rich mids, and healthy basses. A perfect vocal companion and a great strummer. We’re not giving it away, but you’ll never find another.

1978 Fender Stratocaster LEFTY
Serial # S869017. Alright you lefties... Here's something cool for you! With its large CBS headstock, sunburst body and one-piece maple neck, this is a great looking Strat. It's 30 years old this year, and aging nicely. As straight-up as it gets, there's really not much cover with this one; it has one replaced bridge saddle, a new bone nut (original is cracked, but included), and the treble horn as a screw hole from a righty strap button. It's otherwise completely stock and original, and in excellent condition. Great feeling round neck profile, quality original frets, awesome pickups, and just enough finish wear to look right. Fairly light for a 70's Strat, this one weighs in at 8 pounds and has a good looking and resonant Ash body.

2001 Sobell Model 0
Our latest left-handed Stefan Sobell guitar is a Model O completed in 2001. We thought we'd seen it all when the Sobell Parlor showed up here a little while back, but I guess we were wrong! With gleeful excitement I restrung this guitar with my favorite strings and then proceeded to spend the next three hours just listening to every note. An amazing guitar, the Model O is a slightly smaller version of Sobell's signature Model 1. The roughly OM sized guitar is as big and loud as you'd expect a Sobell to be, with unimaginable headroom for aggressive fingerstyle or flatpicking. Open tunings, big droning bass notes, melodies on the high strings, or plain old G chords - this Model O does amazing things with any of it. Gorgeous, richly-hued chocolately Brazilian Rosewood back and sides mated with an absolutely top notch Master Grade Adirondack spruce top. To be honest, I don't think I've ever seen a Red spruce top as perfect as this one on any guitar; new or vintage - perfectly quartered, even and tightly grained, and zero runout. Herringbone top purflings and matching rosette; ebony bridge and fingerboard, bone nut and saddle. Gold Gotoh tuners with ebony buttons and a Luthier-installed highlander pickup. 1-3/4" nut width and 25.4" scale length. The instrument is in exceptional condition; near-mint but for a few very small dings on the top and some minor wear under the E and B strings to the first few frets. Perfectly set up. Someone please quickly buy this guitar so I don't have to sell my first born to keep it for myself!

1956 Gibson ES-125 LEFTY
FON V5966-6. Here's a rare and exciting opportunity for our left-handed customers. Factory left-handed, and in stunning MINT condition, this guitar has definitely benefited by being unplayable to the average right-handed
guitarist! No modifications, no issues, no scratches, no fretwear... we can find absolutely no flaws or faults on this guitar other than a couple of insignificantly small dings, and new replica tuner buttons. Completely
original and beautifully set up, this will certainly be among the highlights of any lefty's collection. 16" wide maple laminate body, single P-90 pickup, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and lefty compensated bridge,
original Kluson tuners. 24.9" scale, 50's Gibson neck with original bone nut and 1-11/16" nut. Blues or Jazz are what this guitar loves to play, but we're sure you'll find ample versatility in the instrument's tone. Original
hang tag is included, as well as the original alligator brown case.

1933 Martin 0-17 LEFTY
Serial # 52791. One of a very small handful of pre-war factory left handed Martin guitars, and likely the only one with shaded lacquer finish on all surfaces (shaded is Martinspeek for sunburst). This guitar is built and braced left handed, unlike most vintage lefty flat-tops built by other companies; and is fitted with original full-height lefty bridge, pickguard, side dots, and ebony nut. Built in early 1933, this instrument features the all-gold first incarnation of Martin's headstock logo, C.F. Martin stamp on the headstock rear, and bar frets. It is completely original except for the new fossil ivory saddle and vintage-reproduction bridge pins. It has had a "California" neck set sometime in it's not too distant past, and has had a pair of side cracks repaired more recently in our repair shop. No top cracks, three very minor back cracks associated with the neck-angle repair, and original finish throughout. Comfortable Golden Era soft V neck profile with 1-3/4" nutwidth. 24.9" scale length; action of 5 to 7 64ths. Exceptionlly fine all-mahogany tone; snappy and crisp, dry and open. A wonderful fingerstyle guitar, and a truly unique instrument for one very lucky left-handed guitarist. This instrument is featured on page 388 of John Engel's two volume "Uncommon Sound".

1978 Fender Musicmaster Bass Lefty
Serial # S818568. Fender introduced the Musicmaster Bass in 1970 as an entry-level student model instrument directly below the Mustang in its lineup. The Musicmaster featured a short 30" scale length, single pickup, curved rosewood fingerboard, and a no-frills look. By the time this one was built the model was only offered in white or black, and by 1983 the Musicmaster line was abandoned. The instrument pictured here is in excellent condition and well set up. 2005 Sobell Parlor Lefty!
There are more than a few things uncommon about this guitar. First off, it's a Sobell. The very respected northern English luthier has been building instruments one at a time for more than 30 years; his instruments are rare (particularly so here in North America), and among the most
desirable fingerstyle guitars on earth. Second, it's a Left-handed Sobell - so multiply that rarity by a hundred or more. And third, it's a Brazilian rosewood and European spruce Parlor model - a proportionally scaled-down
Model 1 in size and design, but with a full-length scale. The instrument was custom ordered with exquisite old-world Brazilian rosewood, a European Spruce top Stefan Sobell had been saving since the early 1970's for the
right instrument, and a Cuban Mahogany neck. Typical of the Model 1 theinstrument features multicolored purflings and stylized herringbone marquetry, all of which are perfectly mitered and inlaid. Like all Sobell "Flat-tops" the top and back have pronounced arches, a design which helps
achieve the trademark powerful and rich tone of Sobell's instruments. The instrument has clear and distinct basses and mids robust trebles, and a full voice at any volume. A light touch can coax plenty of subtly out of the
small instrument, but dig in hard, and you'll be rewarded with a powerful and strong sound; there is an amazing amount of headroom in this design. This instrument is in showroom new condition. It shows no playwear or
markings of any kind. It is fitted with a Highlander pickup, gold Gotoh tuning machines, bone nut and split saddle, ebony bridgepins, and gold strap-button. About the size of a Martin 14 fret 00-28, the guitar's body
measures 14 1/4" wide at the lower bout. 25.6" scale length, 1-25/32" nut width, and wide bridge string spacing of 2-1/4".

1969 Guild M-20 LEFTY
Serial # AH-2529. Guild's M-20 model was the all-mahogany version of their top-selling F-20, available during the Folk Boom of the 1960's. Basically comparable to a Martin 0-17 in design, feel, and tone, the M-20's body is unadorned and has a very simple rosette. Solid mahogany back and sides, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and deep red gloss lacquer finish. This rare lefty version is in excellent condition. It has no cracks and shows only modest finish wear. The plastic head veneer is listing a little bit between the nut and truss-rod cavity, but it's not unsightly and is the only flaw we can find. Completely original except for a replacement bone saddle, this guitar looks and feels just right; and it's nice to be able to offer an affordable vintage lefty flattop for a change! Original frets are in good shape, and the instrument is set up nicely with action of 6 to 7 64ths. Without modifying the bridge lower action is not possible though, so "fingerstyle action" is not what you're getting with this guitar. Nice small-body tone, quite similar to an 0-15 from this period. Comfortable c-shaped neck with a 1-5/8" nut width and 24.7" scale length.

1968 (circa) Martin "Employee" 00-28 LEFTY
Yes, it's factory left handed; yes it has Brazilian Rosewood back and sides; and - yes - it was built in the Martin factory, but like all
"Employee-built" Martin guitars this instrument does not have a Martin serial number or bear the familiar C.F. Martin & Co. logo on its headstock.
Back in the days of the 6-digit serial number, Martin employees were permitted to "build" instruments of their own design when off-shift. They
would use Martin parts in the construction of these instruments, and the finished products would be - essentially - Martin guitars, but would
generally differ from those instruments found in the Martin catalog. Such is the case with the particular lefty 00-sized guitar pictured here. It was
built with three-piece back and sides of richly hued Brazilian rosewood; lefty-braced Sitka spruce top complete with small rosewood bridge-plate (a
la 1968); a twelve-fret neck with 24.9" scale, chucky 1-7/8" width and slotted headstock, and Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and rectangular
bridge. As far as appointments, this instrument is a hybrid of styles ranging from 16 to 45. The top's edge is bound with Style 21 5-ply
purflings and black outer binding, and the abalone pearl rosette is Style 41 and higher. The three-piece back suggests Style 35, but its lack of binding
is reminiscent of the Style 16 New Yorkers that were being built at the same time as this guitar. The fingerboard and dot pattern are Style 21, and the
bridge was built for a Style 16 or 21 New Yorker. Finally, the bridge and end-pins are Style 21 (Black with white dots), and the end-graft is Style
28. So by now, I'm hoping that you're wondering why we've called the guitar a 00-28, if only the endgraft (that little wedge inlaid into the bottom of
the guitar that the strap button sits in the center of) says Style 28. Well, it's because the fellow who built it wanted us to; he stamped the neck
block 00-28! Inside, the guitar is initialed A.F.S. 6.2.71 and although we assume the guitar was completed June 2nd, 1971, we're still calling it a '68
as the materials used and the size/shape of the bridge plate are suggestive of that year. The headstock is inlaid with LMS in pearl, and we have been
told these are the initials of the wife of the Martin Employee who built the instrument.
The instrument is in excellent condition. There are no cracks and no scratches in the finish. We have fitted a replacement tortoise-shell
celluloid pickguard to the top, re-fretted and set up the instrument, complete with a new bone saddle. The action is fingerstyle-low, with a
full-height bridge and enough saddle to lower the strings well into the buzz-zone. Original Grover tuners and original ivory nut. It's a very loud
guitar, with big full trebles and piano-like resonance. It is, after all, a Martin.

2006 Gibson Custom Shop Historic Les Paul R8 VOS Lefty

1958 reissue, complete with VOS (Vintage Original Spec) components and

plastic parts, bumble-bee capacitor, solid one piece mahogany back and
mildly figured maple top. The neck is awesomely comfortable, and the guitar
weighs in at a svelte 9.17 pounds total. Acoustically, it's an incredibly
resonant instrument - which always translates to a killer amplified tone -
especially when its voice is coming from a pair of Gibson Burstbucker

it's so much fun to play. It's sold with all its original documentation,

Magically
balanced, the guitar is a featherweight, too, weighing in at just 7.1
pounds. Sold with its original vintage-repro hang tags, certificate of
authenticity, and custom hard shell case.

NEW Hofner Jazzica LEFTY!
We are not currently Hofner dealers, but we make every effort to have the
finest selection of good lefties. A local dealer ordered this awesome jazz
machine for a customer who never returned, and then brought it to us
because, well, it's all backwards! Lucky us! Beyond cool, and one of the
most fun-to-play lefties we have had. Featuring a hand-carved solid German
spruce top, with nice contemporary f-holes, body of highly figured maple,
unique wedge profile making it super comfy while retaining a full acoustic
voice. Then there's that pickup... I don't know who makes these, but they
are among the best sounding floating pickups I have heard, sweet and full
for quiet passages, but gutsy when you need to dig in. Fingerboard, bridge,
sculpted finger-rest and tailpiece all of black ebony. The nut measures
43mm, or a little more than 1 11/16". The body is 15 5/8" wide. This
instrument is new, and is offered with full warranty, and in its super
deluxe case with built-in humidity gauge and humidifier. A very exciting
opportunity for us to offer a premium jazz box to our lefty customers.

1957 Gibson SJ LEFTY!!
There will soon be a real lucky lefty somewhere out there... but just one,
as vintage left-handed instruments are as easy to find as a needle in a
haystack! This is a 100% original, factory left-handed 1957 Gibson Southern
Jumbo! It's body is crack-free, with original finish, Brazilian rosewood
bridge, and original nut and tuners. The tuner buttons have been replaced,
as has the saddle (it's a bone one that we made for it). There's also an
old repaired headstock crack, which is a bummer, but it's solid and not
glaringly obvious. The neck feels glorious; and the tone is most likely
something that you lefties have yet to really experience. We have trouble
believing it too.
With original hard-shell case.

1965 Gibson ES-330TD Factory Lefty
Well...
Yes, it is Factory left-handed. And yes, it is a 1965 Kalamazoo-built,
Gibson ES-330TD. And yes, it is as rare as you think it is. We aim to
please all of our lefty customers here at Folkway!
Gorgeous sunburst top, Chrome-cover P-90's, 100 % original wire harness and
all components. Original frets, tailpiece and pickguard. Original ABR-1
Bridge with plastic saddles has been replaced with a new ABR-1 with
brass-saddles for increased sustain and better tone all-around; the original
is in the case though. Two newer knobs, and proper replacement Kluson
tuners with aged keystone buttons. Fast, slim neck - a breeze to play.
Near-invisible and very professionally done headstock repair.
Factory-installed neck-side dots on both righty and lefty sides are an
interesting feature.
Original hard-shell case included
