A custom ordered Dreadnought built by Martin’s Custom Shop in 2016, this Martin D-14 features back and sides of Guatemalan rosewood and an Adirondack red spruce top with Golden Era forward-shifted scalloped bracing. Appointed with vintage Style 21 accents, this is a great looking guitar, and one that’s not quite a vintage reissue but is most certainly vintage inspired.
The guitar features tortoise bindings, and wooden Style 18 purflings and rosette. The bevelled-edge pickguard is a thing of beauty. Ebony fretboard with style 18/21 dot inlays, ebony 30’s style belly bridge with drop-in bone saddle and ebony-pearl-dot pins. The square headstock features a Guatemalan rosewood overlay, old-style logo, bone flat-bottomed nut, and Gotoh vintage style tuning machines. The neck is built with Martin’s popular Modified Low Oval carve / Performing Artist taper, which translates to a 1-3/4” nut width, 1st fret depth of .821”, 2-3/16” string spread at the saddle, and 25.4” scale.
In remarkably clean condition, this Martin D-14 Custom Shop Dreadnought presents beautifully. The first few frets show very light wear, and the guitar’s finish shows just about no playwear. The waist sections of binding were cleanly repaired in our shop, and we’ve set it up with mediums and standard 5-6 action.
A bold guitar with a darkly hued voice, this vintage-braced Martin D-14 is a strong flatpicker and strummer. It was ordered with ¼” wide tonebars, which, along with the forward positioned scalloped bracing, opens up the low-end and adds to overtone development.

Martin’s D-15E looks a lot like the D-15M on first glimpse, but the two models have some notable differences which allow Martin to price the Mexican-made, pickup-equipped 15E some $500 lower than the USA-made non-electrified D-15M. To say the D-15E is a great deal is the understatement of Martin’s guitar lineup.
The D-15E is built with a plantation-grown mahogany top and X bracing, sapele back and sides, and a mortise and tenon neck joint. The fretboard and bridge are Katalox, and the neck dimensions and finish are consistent with most other Martins currently being made, with a 1-3/4” nut width, 2-5/32 bridge string spread, and a low oval carve. Scale is 25.4”. The pickup is a Martin E1 system, with onboard volume and tone controls and a chromatic tuner.

Martin’s redesigned standard left-handed D-28 (2017) offers players an appealing combination of vintage-inspired and modern features. They’ve made everything about the venerable Martin D-28L more exciting. Similar to the other 2018 redesigned models, the new Martin D-28 Lefty sports vintage style headstock logo, open geared tuners, bevelled edge faux-tortoise pickguard, and a toned lacquer finish. The top’s bracing is forward shifted but left unscalloped, which is a departure for Martin. Instead, the lower X arms and tone bars are tapered much like the braces on a mid 1940’s D-28, which results in a louder guitar that retains balance across the strings.
The guitar’s neck is carved into Martin’s popular modified low oval, with a high performance fingerboard taper that allows a wider 1-3/4” nut with a flat-pick-friendly 2-5/32 string spread at the bridge. Bone nut and saddle are standard, and the bridge is an attractive modern belly with angled pins.
Kind of like a vintage recreation of a model that never was, the new Martin D-28 Lefty collects features from pre-war, wartime, and postwar versions of its own history. It’s a great sounding guitar, and offers a marked improvement in tone from its predecessor (if you want to know the truth). This is a factory left-handed D-28 (2018).

Martin’s tried and true D-28 model finished in an attractive satin Nitrocellulose lacquer. The D-28 Satin feels great to play, and seems to offer a slightly more open and ‘played-in’ tone as compared to the standard gloss finished models.
Indian rosewood back and sides, Sitka spruce top with unscalloped X bracing. Ebony fretboard and bridge, 1-3/4” nut width, Performing Artist taper and a modified low oval neck carve. Vintage style tuners, bone nut and saddle, vintage 1950’s appointments and look.
