1927 Washburn Dansant Style 5177 Tenor Banjo

Serial #7011. This 19 fret Model 5177 "Dasante" tenor banjo was built circa 1927 by Lyon and Healy in Chicago. The 5177 was an upper-midlevel instrument that was equipped with the company's newly patented tone ring (marketed as an "Air Cushion Resonator," but known as the 'Donut' tone ring), an ingenious tension hoop to which the bracket-ends were fit midway down and totally out of the player's way, and a silver-plated and engraved resonator flange.

The instrument is simply adorned but quite tastefully so, and very classy. The headstock's pearl torch inlay and fingerboard's dots with diamonds markers are very attractive, and the resonator features a line of marquetry around its back edge.

Bound ebony fingerboard, geared tuning machines, bone nut, Kershner tailpiece, skin head, and integrated armrest.

The instrument is completely original and unaltered but for a neck reset and set-up work by our repairshop. A very fine sounding 19 fret tenor, tuned Irish.

With original hardshell case
