1931 Gibson L-00
This example is among the earlier L-00s we’ve encountered, and was likely built later in the second half of 1931, which explains its stencilled Gibson headstock logo. It’s a lovely guitar that remains in excellent condition and has just come through our shop with a fresh neck reset, aged bone saddle, and a few cleanly reglued braces. It has only one crack to mention, which is small and presents more like a craze line in the finish. It was glued by us, as well. Apart from our recent repairs, this guitar’s only previous repair was a reglued bridge, which continues to hold well.
A very lovely sounding 12 fret Gibson, this L-00 offers plenty of smokiness, a rich pallet of overtones, dynamic touch sensitivity, and a responsiveness that’s not unlike a high-end classical guitar. The string balance is superb, and there’s a cavernous decay to single notes that makes you want to slow down and let the guitar do the work.
Sitka spruce top, mahogany back and sides, rosewood board and bridge. Original tuner, nut, frets, bridge, pins, and finish.
The neck has a contemporary low/round feel, 1-3/4” nut, .795” first fret neck depth, .895” 7th fret depth, and 24.75” scale. 2-3/8” string spread at the saddle.
With period original chipboard case.
