1931 Gibson TB-1 Conversion

An excellent sounding, professionally converted Gibson TB-1 from early 1931 with a FON in the 9900s. The original TB-1 provided the rim, tension hoop, and all hardware. The flange is a Gibson / Dohler original, but is most likely a post-war version. The rim is in excellent condition, with original finish and Gibson interior decal. The maple laminations are tight, and the rim is true. The flange shows no cracks, excellent plating, and very little up-pull. Brackets and nuts are original and in perfect working order. We don’t know what variety of tone ring was used in this build, but it’s of the standard 20 hole flathead style.

Single coordinator rod, original Grover presto tailpiece with G string hole drilled, original armrest, and original resonator mounting hardware. The resonator is original but has been refinished. The original FON markings are intact as the inside was not refinished. The neck is nicely made of lightly figured maple and features clean inlay work in an Indian rosewood fingerboard. The board is non-radiused and fretted with modern fretwire inside the binding. 5th string capo spikes are installed. Scruggs tuners on the G and B strings, the remaining tuners are the original Grover planets, and the 5th string tuner is a period match. The nut width is 1-3/16”.

Frets show only light wear, set up here with medium-low action. Excellent tone, volume, cut, and projection.

With modern 5 string case, and original neck with matching FON.
