1937 Martin 00-21S
Crack-free body with no internal repairs and gorgeous original finish. Perfect replacement bridge , nice refret, and replacement nut. The neck has been reset twice on this guitar; unfortunately, though, epoxy was used in the first reset which makes subsequent neck removal a near impossibility. That this guitar survived disassembly with only one minor crack is a miracle, and no finish work was required in the subsequent repair. The instrument is in otherwise remarkable condition, with largely unworn finish, original tuners, and Henkes and Blazer reproduction bridge pins. The neck carve is low and round, with the hint of a V past the 5th fret. 1-3/4" nut, 24.9" scale. Rosewood back and sides, Red spruce top, rosewood bindings with multi-layered wooden purflings. Herringbone rosette and backstrip.
A remarkable guitar, with beguiling tone. The 14 fret rosewood pre-war body is unlike any instrument we've ever played -- the guitar really does amazing things. Played lightly, the 00-21 offers up the best smaller-bodied fingerstyle tone imaginable; but with a flatpick the instrument opens right up -- bass notes blossom from the soundhole, trebles fatten right up, and the whole guitar shudders under the pick's attack. It's a beautiful thing.
