1941 Gibson L-00 Natural
This L-00 features all of these late-period details, complete with scalloped bracing, a 1-11/16" nutwidth and deep round neck carve. Because of this, it doesn't sound like a mid 1930's L-00 -- but it doesn't quite sound like the LG-2 that replaced the L-00 a year later (with similar bracing, neck, and bridge design). The combination of scalloped bracing and the tight-waisted, small shouldered L-00 shape creates a guitar that's more hard-edged than and LG-2, but not as brash as an L-00; and it's a really nice thing. The guitar lends itself perfectly to fingerstyle ragtime and blues, but has the warmth and overtones of a songwriting companion.
The guitar is completely original but for new buttons on its tuners. The only repair is a cleanly glued side crack that's less than 3" long. No top or back cracks, no repaired braces, the bridge and pickguard have never been off or modified, the neck has not been reset and the angle is excellent, the original frets are unworn, and the guitar's finish is original and in exceptional condition. Apart from that small side crack, the only flaws are found on the guitar's back -- where some kind of solvent seems to have been 'sneezed' onto the lower part of the back. There's a collection of tiny drop-sized blemishes in the finish, and there's been no attempt made to clean them up. The back has thankfully not been sanded or buffed in an attempt to hide the dots, and they are quite easily forgotten.
Bookmatched spruce top, one-piece mahogany back. Single-ply binding to both the top and back, gloss lacquer finish. Rosewood bridge and fingerboard, ebony nut, bone saddle. Original Kluson tuners with Antique Acoustic black buttons installed by us.
