1943 Gibson LG-2
A loud and forward-sounding guitar with a wonderfully open bass, powerful trebles and a supportive midrange that’s not overpowering, this LG-2 certainly punches above its weight class. It’s dry and woody and really enjoys a strong right-hand attack, giving back plenty of headroom, excellent definition, lots of warmth, and no mud.
This example is in quite remarkable condition and is completely original but for a newer aged bone saddle and replacement tuner buttons. The neck reset is very cleanly done and the original frets play well. The guitar’s few cracks are hard to spot and have been cleanly repaired. There’s one between the bridge and the soundhole, roughly in line with the bass-side bridge bolt, and two on the back that are visibly lost in the crazelines of the old lacquer. Original finish throughout, and the nut has never been removed. There are a few reglued brace ends under the hood, as one would expect, and the original bridge plate is in great shape. Cleanly reglued bridge with removed bolts, original bridge pins, full height saddle. Original Kluson tuners.
1-3/4” nut, large banner-era rounded neck carve, 24.75” scale, 2-1/8” string spread at the bridge. Action set at 5-6 64ths with 12-53 strings. Mahogany top, back and sides, mahogany neck with maple reinforcement (no truss rod), rosewood fingerboard and bridge. With hardshell case
