1950s Artur Lang Archtop

One of the most highly-regarded guitar builders of his day, Artur Lang studied at the Violin School in his home town of Schonbäch before eventually setting up shop in the Mittenwald region of Germany. While there is very little credible information available regarding Artur Lang and the instruments he built, it is speculated that he produced approximately 800 guitars between the late 1940s and early 1970s.

This mid-20th century Lang is a particularly exciting 17" archtop with a beguiling voice unlike that of anything produced by American builders of the era. The guitar responds well to a strong attack, offering excellent balance with an impressive low bloom, smooth mids, and rounded trebles.

The guitar sports a European spruce top, beautifully figured maple back and sides, and a 7-piece laminated maple neck with strips of what appear to be cherry. Paired with its Art Deco accents, this Lang is a remarkably striking instrument and offers an aesthetic that is completely unique in the world of vintage archtops.

The 24.9" scale neck has a fast and compact feel with a 1-9/16" nut width. The U-shaped profile tapers comfortably with a 1st fret depth of .881" and a 12th fret depth of 1.012". We currently have the guitar set up with 12-53 strings with action measuring 4.5-6 64ths at the 12th fret. Weight of 5lbs 7oz.
