1956 Gibson BR-6

Gibson’s BR-6 Steel is one of the company’s more recognizable post-war models. It was introduced in 1946 and replaced the fairly obscure BR-4, becoming Gibson’s mid-line steel offering until being discontinued in mid-1959. This model features a symmetrical mahogany body similar to the pre-war EH-125, with a Cremona sunburst finish, bound top, one-piece gold-painted Lucite control plate and hand rest, and, by the time this example was made, a P-90 pickup with adjustable poles. Electronically, the BR-6 is a Les Paul Jr; with the same pickup and pots, capacitor, jack, and bumblebee capacitor. It has the same tuners and jack plate as a Jr. as well, and for those reasons many of these instruments have been stripped of their original parts.

This example is completely original and in excellent condition. Pots are dated late 1955, and the 1956 serial number is ink-stamped on the headstock. It’s in perfect working order and sounds incredible. Can’t really complain about a mid-50’s P-90! There are fingernail scratches and dents in the guitar’s top, but it’s otherwise quite clean. The D-string tuner button post is bent slightly.

With original chipboard case.
