1957 Gretsch 6187 Clipper Cut-Away
This example is in wonderfully fine condition and is completely original. We’ve recently completed a repair to the headstock wings which had separated thanks to the shrinkage of the celluloid headstock overlay. The neck was then oversprayed and matches the body about as perfectly as is humanly possible, and the work is undetectable (we’re really quite proud of it, to be honest). We’ve refretted the neck with vintage wire as the originals were on par with all other 50s Gretsch fretwork (read: terrible), so you can expect a vintage Gretsch that plays as well as you want it to. All told, this is a gorgeous and perfect rare model of vintage Gretsch that plays better than 96% of all the others out there. With its 15.6” wide no-soundpost 2.75” deep body and single pickup, this 6187 can be thought of as, essentially, a single-pickup version of a ’57 6120 with different trim.
Rosewood fretboard with 24.6” scale, medium ‘D’ neck carve with 1-11/16” nutwidth and a depth of .86” at the 1st fret. Original Dynasonic and wire harness with original solder throughout. Set up with 11-49 strings with a wound G and an action of 4-5 64ths at the 12th fret. Ample bridge adjustment height available for the long-term.
With modern hardshell case
