1959 Gibson Les Paul Junior
A fantastic sounding guitar, this double-cut Les Paul Jr. has a particularly resonant acoustic response that marries with the 8.3K P-90 to provide a warm and full sounding voice that’s snappy and articulate without any harshness in the trebles.
A largely original guitar without any neck or body repairs or finish touch-ups, this ’59 Jr. presents really well. There is playwear to the body and neck as can be seen in the accompanying photos, but no abuse or significant modifications. The original tone pot was non-functional when the guitar arrived here, so we’ve installed a matching original Gibson late 50’s Centralab pot that we had on hand and put the original in the case pocket. The jackplate is another original Gibson late 1950’s part but isn’t original to this guitar and is hiding filled-in screw holes from the non-original plate we removed. The pickup and balance of the wire harness is original, with pots dating to 1959 (the replaced tone pot dates to ’56, and the bumblebee cap is original). Original bridge, control knobs, pickguard and back plate, and all screws. Original Kluson tuners, new bone nut, and original frets that have been professionally dressed.
We’ve set the guitar up here with 11-49 strings and a 4-5 64ths action. Playability is heavenly, and the fat 1959 neck carve feels incredible. It’s well balanced and noticeably comfortable to play.
The neck measures .925” at the 1st fret and .980” at the 12th. 1-11/16” nut, 24.75” scale. Excellent neck angle.
