1961 Gibson Melody Maker

Gibson’s Melody Maker was the company’s entry-level solidbody offering in the late 1950s and ’60s. Designed as a less expensive version of the Les Paul Jr, the Melody Maker was built with a thinner body, tapered headstock, a unique single-coil pickup, and pickguard mounted controls in an effort to keep the costs down. But, even as an entry level guitar, the Melody Maker featured a set-in neck with a full-scale rosewood fingerboard. By today’s standards there wasn’t much about it that was budget.

This example is dated to 1961. It’s entirely original but for the truss rod cover and is well set up. Playability is excellent and the original frets show little wear. Apart from the non-original tailpiece studs in the body this Melody Maker is in excellent shape. Full thickness neck with a low C carve, 1-11/16” nut and 24.75” scale.
