1963 Gibson Dove
In 1963 the Dove was offered with a Natural-Top option, and this is one of the 29 made during that first year of production.
This example is in quite lovely condition. It's nearly 100% original, and plays beautifully. The finish is original and in excellent shape, the neck angle is perfect, and the frets show very little wear. The guitar's saddle inserts are newer replacements, and the replaced bridge height screws are period-original parts. There is a repaired top crack between the bridge and the soundhole, and there are a few braces that have been cleanly reglued.
The nut has never been off the guitar, original waffle-back Kluson tuner work well, and the original truss-rod cover is perfect.
A delightful guitar to play, the Dove has an incredibly deep sub-bass response that underlies every note and chord. There is compression throughout the mids, and the treble notes have a chime that defines everything. This guitar is all about strumming, and the sound it offers under a pick is instantly recognizable if you've been raised on a healthy diet of 1960's rock and folk.
1-11/16" nut, 25.5" scale, typical 1963 carve with full width and slightly lower depth.
With modern hardshell case.
