1963 Silvertone Jupiter

The Silvertone 1423 Jupiter is a rebranded Harmony H49 Stratotone with way higher style points thanks to its spiffy gold-sparkle black finish and Goldfoil DeArmond pickups in good-looking silver covers. Built for Sears between 1959 and 1963, the Jupiter was one of the higher priced offerings in the Catalog during its tenure.

This example is 100% original and in remarkably fine condition. Its neck and frets are in excellent playing shape, set-up is perfect, and there is very little playwear to be found anywhere on the guitar. Electronics work flawlessly - or actually even better than that - thanks to a string ground that was added recently (no Stratotones have string grounds, and they all need them). The pickups sound heavenly, with that clear, bold, strong and dynamic output that pushes the front end of a tube amp into tonal heaven. These guitars are famous for their dynamics and clarity. Couple that with a lower-power tube amp and you’ve got some pretty fabulous sounds coming at your ears.

A fully-hollow guitar with light weight and a very cool acoustic resonance; short 24” scale neck with a C carve and chunky 1-11/16 plus-size nut, volume and tone for each pickup, three-way switching and a blend control.
