1965 Fender Mustang

A transitional 1965 Fender Mustang that was brought to Folkway by its owner of nearly 50 years. She used it in a punk band in early 1980 before moving to Canada from Boston, and transitioning into a less punk lifestyle. The guitar hasn’t seen all too much use since.

An L-series 1965 Mustang with neck and grey bobbin pickups that date to the spring of 1965. The original tone pot was acting up, so we swapped out the entire wiring harness to keep it intact (original pots date to the 20th week of ’65 and are included in the case). Original hardware throughout, original finish and frets too. The frets are in good shape and don’t show much playwear, and the Olympic White lacquer has aged attractively. There’s a strap button hole on the treble horn, and a new bone nut.

Pickup values are 5.6k and 5.3k. The neck is A-width and has a 1.5” nut. Neck depth of .77” at the 1st fret, and .96” at the 12th. Weight is 7.25 lbs.

The pickups offer clear articulation while retaining a warm and pleasant tone. Paired with the smooth feeling trem system and fast short scale neck, this ’65 Mustang is an incredibly fun instrument to play.
