1967 Gibson Trini Lopez Standard
One of 783 Standard models produced in 1967, this Gibson Trini Lopez artist guitar has matured beautifully over the last 58 years. The original unfaded Cherry Red finish has darkened to a deep shade of wine red with a light and attractive crazing to the clear coat. While this guitar was used extensively in professional settings by its original owner, the excellent cosmetic condition stands as a testament to how much it was cherished.
The guitar's original owner was a man from South Carolina named Wardell Johnson. Wardell played this '67 Trini Lopez in a band with his brother called the D.C. Stompers. We haven't been able to gather much about Mr. Johnson's band, but there are several photos of him performing with this Gibson Trini Lopez included in the guitar's case.
Sporting a pair of original unmodified Patent Number humbuckers, this Trini Lopez offers rich, full and open tones that are slightly warmer and more compressed than one would expect from a PAF-equipped semi-hollow. The guitar delivers signature airy and overtone-rich qualities of a good semi-hollow build, making for an all-around excellent sounding electric.
This guitar is completely original apart from one pickguard washer and the strap buttons. There are no breaks or repairs anywhere on the instrument. The original frets, while fully playable, do show moderate playwear up to the twelfth fret. There is a small area of missing finish underneath the pickguard from where foam was previously glued to space the guard from the guitar's top.
Scale length of 24.75". 1st first fret depth of 0.845", twelfth fret depth of 0.998", and a 1-9/16" nut width. Pickup dc values of 8.0K (neck) and 7.9K (bridge). Weight of 8lbs 12oz.
With original hardshell case
