1969 Gibson SG Standard

This late 1960’s Gibson SG Standard features original patent number humbuckers and original wiring, a great neck, no breaks or repairs, and original finish. It’s among the last of the pre-Norlin Gibsons and was built without volute or ‘Made in USA’ stamp on the headstock.

The guitar plays cleanly, thanks to a recent refret. We’ve installed a new bone nut and adjusted the set up here. The pickups are balanced and strong, with a bridge that screams just right and a neck that’s warm but not muddy. Pickup DC values are 7.5k and 7.7k (neck/bridge). The neck angle is excellent.

The guitar is largely all original but does feature a period-correct replacement Vibrola tailpeice. It was installed here to replace a non-original unbranded similar tailpiece. The only evidence are a pair of screw holes that will only be seen if the tailpiece is removed.

All hardware is original, the electronics are unmodified, and the finish is untouched. There’s average playwear to the back of the neck and the balance of the finish is cleaner than most.

The neck had a chunky, round, and deep feel. It measures .892” at the 1st fret, and 1.065” at the fret. You’ll be quite happy with a 1-9/16” nut on a neck that’s that deep. It feels more like a 1951 Nocaster than a late 60’s Gibson! Guitar weight is 7.2lbs.
