1972 Gibson ES-325TDW

The Gibson ES-325 was introduced in 1972 as a lower-cost alternative to the popular ES-335. It sold well for a few years, but ultimately was phased out by the decade’s end. The main differences between an ES-335 and ES-325 were the pickups used and how the electronics were mounted to the body. The 325 features mini humbuckers and plate-mounted controls. So while still fairly similar to an ES-335 of the same year, the 325 offers the slightly brighter and cleaner sound of mini humbuckers; which makes it quite unique among the semi-hollow thinline Gibsons.

This example is well set up and plays nicely. It has fast neck feel thanks to its slim carve and 1-5/8” nutwidth and has had its trapeze tailpiece replaced with a stop-tail. The pickups and controls are original, with pots dated mid 1972. Original finish throughout, 1970’s Grover Rotomatics are non-original.
