1978 Gibson ES-335TD

Gibson’s late 1970’s ES-335 saw a return to a full-width neck, and change from the earlier unpotted T-Top pickups to the company’s new ceramic-magnet epoxy sealed pickups designed by legendary pickup maker, Bill Lawrence. These new humbuckers were designed to offer better balance between neck and bridge pickups, more bite in the lead position, and less low-end mud in the rhythm. Gibson also added a coil cut switch on the upper bouts of all their 335s at that time.

This example is in excellent condition and is entirely original. Playability is excellent, playwear is minimal; and the set-up, done here at Folkway, feels great. Apart from two filled screw-holes from a previous Bigsby install, the guitar presents quite beautifully. The coil-cut switch has been disconnected, which we’re happy about; all other wiring is untouched.

Natural-finished maple laminate body with single-ply white bindings, three-piece maple neck with bound rosewood fingerboard. Pearloid block markers, nickel hardware. 1-11/16” nut width, .780” depth at the 1st fret, thickening up to .935” at the 9th.

With original case, which has a musty odor that we were unable to fully remediate.
