1984 Yamaha SBG 3000

The SBG 3000 was introduced in 1982 at the top of Yamaha’s pricelist. Featuring a 5-piece laminate neck-through design and solid mahogany wings, abalone pearl trim, and new Spinex high-output humbuckers, the 3000 was a very obvious upgrade to the SG-2000 that Carlos Santana made famous a few years before. The Yamaha SBG-3000 was produced for just 4 years and are quite a rare find these days, particularly in as fine and original condition as the one offered here.

Completely original and in near-perfect condition, this Yamaha SBG 3000 has clearly led a very sheltered life. There is minimal playwear to the finish and original frets, and everything about the guitar works perfectly. It’s been set-up in our shop and plays easily strung with 11’s. The pickups are hot and warm and have a little bit of sizzle, but are more vintage than modern in their voicing despite the black cover aesthetic.

The neck has a fast low C carve with a 1st fret depth of .780” and a nut width of that’s just shy of 1-11/16”. 12th fret neck depth is .956”.

Neck pickup DC resistance is 8.1k, bridge pickup measures 8.2k. Each pickup has coil-tapping available through push-pull tone pots. The guitar weighs 9.9 lbs.
