1996 Marc Beneteau

Serial # 140596. If you play fingerstyle in open tunings, and prefer a wide nut width you are certain to fall for this instrument. Canadian Luthier Marc Beneteau has developed a world wide cult-like following amongst fingerstyle illuminati, and rightly so. His instruments unite balance, power, and complexity in their tone and are - simply put - like nothing else out there. In building this guitar, Beneteau combined his concert body and extra depth (it tapers from 4-3/4" at the endpin to 4-1/4" at the neck joint) to create a modern instrument with Nick Lucas style warmth, overtone and woodiness. Lots of bass responses is equaled by the guitar's robust trebles; and even flatpickers will find joy in the big G chord you'll have delivered by Mr. Beneteau. Indian rosewood back and sides, Western Red cedar top, Florentine cut-away, maple bindings, abalone rosette, ebony board and bridge, bone nut and saddle, and gold Gotoh tuners. There are a few dings and dents here and there, and a small patch of lacquer-melt on the neck (behind the 6th fret) from a vinyl strap or stand. No cracks, no real finish wear, excellent neck angle, minor fretwear in the first position, and recent slinky fingerstyle set up in our shop. 25.4" scale, nut width of a hair less than 1-7/8".
