1997 Guild Starfire IV TPR

Guild's Starfire IV made its debut in 1963 as a direct competitor to Gibson's ES-335. Featuring a 16" wide semi-hollow thinline body outfitted with a pair of humbucking pickups and a Tune-o-matic style bridge, the SF-4 covered much of the same ground as an ES-335 while offering unique Guild voicing, feel, and aesthetic. The Starfire IV has remained a staple of the Guild lineup since its inception.

A wonderful example of a late 1990s Starfire built in Guild's Westerly factory, this 1997 Starfire IV TPR is a nicely preserved guitar that checks all of the boxes in terms of tone, feel, and playability. The original Cherry Red finish is in very good condition overall. Light buckle rash to the body and some minor chipping on the back of the headstock are the only notable signs of playwear. The frets show light signs of wear throughout.

Outfitted with a pair of original Seymour Duncan SD-1 pickups, this '97 Starfire IV serves up some deliciously rich and full-bodied humbucker tones with excellent single-note depth. The guitar has been equipped with an added Bigsby tailpiece and Towner tension arm, making the instrument all the more versatile. The original bridge is housed in the case pocket.

To those who know us here at Folkway it's no secret that we are huge fans of Guild guitars built from the 1950s through the 1990s. Westerly-built Guild Starfires in particular tend to punch far above their weight in terms of guitar-per-dollar value, and remain one of the best kept secrets in the guitar world (shhh, don't tell anyone.)

With original hardshell case.
